Speaking at the ceremony, the British Ambassador HE Kate Smith CMG said: ‘Celebrating Greek alumni of British universities as we do is an opportunity to highlight the very best of the relationship between Greece and the UK. The experience of the academic excellence and all the opportunities that pursuing a course of study or research in the UK provides forges deep and lasting personal bonds, but it also strengthens the co-operation between our countries across a wide range of policy, business, science and social endeavours. Greek alumni, like the ones nominated and honoured in 2020, are great examples of this and I am very proud the UK has contributed to the outstanding achievement they have and are making in their own field and the community.’

Anastasia Andritsou, Director British Council Greece, said: ‘I am delighted that we are hosting the Study UK Alumni Awards in Greece for the fourth consecutive year. Today we are celebrating the success of a dynamic and vibrant network with more than 300,000 members in Greece. We honour their talent, their professionalism and the wealth of experience and skills that they bring back to their communities. We actively demonstrate our appreciation for their invaluable contribution to the strengthening of cultural relations between Greece and the UK.’

Maria Tsakali, Head Education and Society, British Council Greece, said: ‘UK education continues to inspire generations of young people and Greek UK alumni continue to create their own successful paths. Greek alumni of a UK education excel in their fields. They use their UK education to become champions and leaders in their chosen professions. In doing so, they become the very best ambassadors for both Greece and the UK and contribute to the strong cultural and educational connections that exist between the two countries.’
