Business Skills through English takes you through the most common English language and skills required in the modern workplace. Worried about writing emails or reports in English? Would you like to improve the way you get your message across in presentations? Business Skills through English has the answer to these questions and much more.

English for the Medical Profession is a specialised course designed for doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals who need to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues. This course emphasises key aspects of doctor-patient interactions, including history-taking, examinations, diagnosis, and treatment. It aims to enhance all four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—through a diverse range of activities tailored to the medical context.

English for Tourism is an intermediate-level course tailored for individuals working or preparing to work in the tourism, hospitality, and travel industries who need to use English in their daily tasks. The course emphasises authentic and integrated communication scenarios, allowing students to build confidence and improve fluency in areas such as international travel, handling phone calls, accommodation, and food and beverages. Additionally, it provides extra practice in writing emails specifically within the context of the tourism industry.

What does Business Skills through English include?

1 Networking - Learn how to introduce yourself and network effectively.
2 Dealing with communication breakdown – Learn more about the barriers to communication and practise the language of empathy, caring and sharing.
3 Active listening – Develop your verbal and non-verbal techniques for active listening and improve your note-taking skills.
4 Making a presentation – Improve your presentation skills by developing your language for getting your message across and engaging with an audience.
5 Asking and answering difficult questions – Learn how to ask questions without putting people in a difficult situation and how to deflect difficult questions and guide a conversation.
6 Negotiating -Develop your language of understanding, agreeing and raising objections then practise the skills of collaboration and compromise.
7 Resolving conflict – Discover how to frame a conversation in order to resolve a disagreement and practise the skills for conflict resolution.
8 Report writing – Learn how to organise reports and practise writing effective executive summaries, presenting data, drawing conclusions and making recommendations.
9 Writing emails – Develop your language for writing effective emails and learn how to keep them short and to the point. 
10 Coaching – Explore ways of working with others to help them improve and discover the language of encouraging others, developing accountability and setting goals.

4 Examining a patient – giving instructions, understanding forms, using a pharmacology reference
5 Special examinations – instructing, explaining and reassuring, rephrasing, encouraging and prompting
6 Investigations – explaining and discussing investigations, using medical documents
7 Making a diagnosis 1 – discussing and explaining a diagnosis
8 Making a diagnosis 2 – discussing and explaining a diagnosis 
9 Treatment 1 – medical treatment, physiotherapy
10 Treatment 2 – surgical treatment

1 Different kinds of people – working in the travel industry, being friendly and helpful, dealing with enquiries
2 International travel – different ways of travelling, asking questions, taking bookings, organising a trip
3 Phone calls – answering enquiries, taking messages
4 Food and drink – welcoming to the restaurant, explaining the cuisine, taking orders
5 Correspondence – responding to enquiries, confirming reservations, avoiding mistakes, apologising
6 Accommodation – reservations, facilities, giving information about activities and accommodation facilities
7 Money – different ways to pay, changing money, explaining the bill
8 Transport – to/from the airport, car rental, instructions to get to a destination
9 Resolving problems – dealing with complaints, safety, difficult customers
10 Attractions and activities – sightseeing, making suggestions and giving advice, history and folklore
