As part of the programme of events taking place to mark Thessaloniki 2014 European Youth Capital, we have joined forces with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Navarino Network in organising a conference to discuss Thessaloniki’s potential to position itself as an international education hub.

The conference aims to present the Greek experience – with special emphasis on the Thessaloniki context – in internationalising higher education, to identify the issues which hamper the influx of international students and prospects for growth in the internationalisation of education, and also to present examples of good practice in countries that have succeeded in becoming world education hubs, taking the UK as our prime case study.

The conference will conclude with a round-table discussion with the participation of:

  • Yiannis Boutaris, Mayor of Thessaloniki
  • Anna Diamantopoulou, President of the DIKTIO Network for Reform in Greece and Europe, former EU Commissioner and Greek Minister
  • Giannis Mylopoulos, Professor, Rector, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
  • Konstantinos Tsotsoumanos, Vice President, Hellenic Colleges Association.

Programme (PDF, 391 kb).

The conference will be held in Greek with simultaneous interpretation to/from English.

Admission is free and participants will receive certificates of attendance at the end of the conference.
