Discussion with Don Letts on his documentary PUNK: Attitude
Don Letts, the director of PUNK: Attitude, has been invited to engage in a lively discussion with the audience after the screening.
Don Letts’ reputation has been firmly established in the film and music industry since the late ‘70s by a substantial body of work, and he and his work are familiar to both music and cinema fans. He has been awarded multiple times both as a musician and as a director, and in March 2003 he won a Grammy Award for the documentary Westway To The World.
His career began with his appearances as a DJ at major London music venues, where his music sets were a combination of punk and reggae music. His legendary appearances at the Roxy, the first punk club in London, established his personal style as D.I.Y. punk. During that period, he directed his first documentary: Punk Rock Movie. To date, he has directed more than 300 music videos for dozens of different artists.
The list of documentaries he has directed includes more than 30 titles and the topics he chooses to film are not limited to music. Among the documentaries he has directed are: PUNK: Attitude (2005), Still Burning: Stiff Little Fingers (2007), The Clash: Revolution Rock (2008), Made in Sheffield (2011), Celebrity Exposed (2012), Subculture (2012), Something New (2013), Skinhead (2016) and Two Sevens Clash (2017).
At the same time, Letts takes part in music sets around the world, but his setlist includes strictly old and new tracks from the dub reggae scene, maintaining the identity that launched his career when he played at the Roxy Club in London in the late 1970s.
