Future Climates is a platform that aims to propose viable futures for independent cultural practice. The programme will launch in Athens with The School of Redistribution, a three-month exhibition, research and public programme, and a newly-commissioned performance, all of which will take the form of a ‘school’.

Conceived as a dialogue across contexts, methodologies and practices, Future Climates aims to investigate the economic conditions that determine and define the work of small-scale arts and cultural organisations in Athens. It will revolve around a central question: how can we transform the increasingly precarious existence of small-scale organisations and independent arts practitioners into a more sustainable one, both in economic terms and in terms of work ethics.

The public programme opens on 5 April, featuring talks and panel discussions with Olav Velthuis, Prosorini Akadimia Tehnon Athens, Emily Pethick, Victoria Ivanova, Maria Lind, Julieta Aranda and Anton Vidokle, and Mohammed Salemy, moderated by Antonia Alampi, iLiana Fokianaki and Evita Tsokanta. Full details are available at www.stateofconcept.org.

Moving Pictures

As part of the programme, we are supporting screenings of Moving Pictures: Artists’ Films from the Film London Jarman Award. Moving Pictures is an innovative programme of single-screen moving image works by 20 UK-based artists selected from the Film London Jarman Award.

Inspired by Derek Jarman, one of the UK’s most innovative and controversial artists of the late 20th century, the Film London Jarman Award is an annual prize celebrating the spirit of experimentation and imagination among UK artists working in moving image. The award recognises artists whose work resists conventional definition, encompassing innovation and excellence.

Artist Anja Kirschner will deliver a talk in which she will discuss Moving Pictures: Artists’ Films from the Film London Jarman Award, her current practice and future plans.

The talk is open to the public.
