Celebrate this year’s European Day of Languages with us at the Pedion tou Areos in Athens
For the 12th consecutive year, the educational and cultural institutions and embassies from 13 member countries of EUNIC Athens, in collaboration with the Representation of the European Commission in Athens, the Foundation for State Scholarships (IKY) and the Network for Children’s Rights, with the support of the Region of Attica, invite you to a multilingual celebration which will take you on a journey from one European country to another, exploring the fascinating world of languages and dialects with a programme of events and activities for the whole family.
This year’s celebrations will focus on the theme of ‘Environment’, underlining the role of language and culture as a means to cultivate and promote the value of environmental sustainability and the green transition, highlighting them as important factors in enhancing the development of children’s skills regarding sustainability, with the goal of a greener and more sustainable society.Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in educational workshops for children, interact with the organisers and receive a range of gifts.
Programme
This year’s programme includes:
Organisers’ exhibition | 10.00–14.00
- Organisers’ booths for information, gifts and interaction with the institutions and the audience.
Narrations | 11.00–14.00
- A story-telling series focusing on the environment that combines live spoken word and comic art.
Creative workshops
- Flowering houses
A creative upcycling workshop through which children will learn how they can green their terrace by creatively reusing seemingly useless objects and turning them into beautiful useful objects. - The Tree of Life
A mixed media workshop in which children create their own tree of life, learning about essential elements in nature, such as water, sun, soil, leaves and insects.
About the European Day of Languages
The European Day of Languages was established in 2001 to support and promote Europe’s rich linguistic diversity and the development of language skills so as to enable its citizens to play their full part in democratic citizenship in Europe and preserve Europe’s multicultural identity.
