Exploring Inclusion, Autonomy, Rights and Challenges

To mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Megaron Plus in co-operation with the British Council, in partnership with the vocational training center for people with learning disabilities Margarita and with the support of MenCap UK, are organising a conference on learning disabilities in the UK. The conference sessions will be led by distinguished academics, researchers and fieldworkers from the UK.

The aim of the conference is to present an overview of learning disabilities in the UK and to stimulate discussion around the integration and independent living of people with learning disabilities.

The conference will focus mainly on education reforms in the context of Special Education Needs and the position of people with learning disabilities in society. It will explore the conditions that need to be in place in order for people with learning disabilities to assert their rights and examine the limitations on the exercise of these rights. Other key issues include public policy and the model used for the provision of services.

Our invited UK speakers will share their knowledge and experience with the audience, which will primarily consist of high-level representatives from Greek Ministries, academics, representatives of NGOs and institutions, psychologists, experts from the fields of vocational training and special education, parents and the national media.

The conference will be held in English with simultaneous interpretation from/into English and Greek.

Admission is free following online registration.
