The Athens Jazz Festival – one of the most important cultural events of the Greek capital – is celebrating its 17th successive year with six music-filled days.
From 23 to 28 May 2017, Technopolis City of Athens will become the centre of the international jazz scene, featuring jazz trends from all over the world and music ensembles that will take audiences on a magical musical journey.
A series of wrap-around celebratory events will also be held at Technopolis during the festival.
We are supporting:
Portico Quartet (United Kingdom) | Sunday 28 May 2017 at 23.00
Duncan Bellamy (drums & electronics), Milo Fitzpatrick (bass & electronics), Keir Vine (hang drums & keyboards), Jack Wyllie (saxophone & keyboards)
2017 marks the return of Portico Quartet. The iconic, Mercury Prize nominated East Londoners have never sounded like anyone else, but where 2015 saw the band experiment with songwriting and collaborate with the likes of Jamie Woon and Joe Newman as Portico, 2017 finds Portico Quartet rebooting the band’s signature sound. Expect a collage of shifting textures and hummable hooks made on acoustic and electronic instruments. From improvised sax lines to danceable drum grooves drawing on electronic, ambient, classical and dance music, Portico Quartet embrace the strange, beautiful, cinematic, futuristic music that made their name. Expect new music from their forthcoming Gondwana Records release and classic songs from their illustrious back catalogue.
