‘The Alexandria Quartet’ exhibition of paintings by the Greek artist Andreas Georgiadis is based on Lawrence Durrell's tetralogy of novels of the same name.

It opened for the first time at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina last October as part of the celebrations marking the 12th anniversary of the opening of the library and was organised jointly with the Greek Consulate in Alexandria under the supervision of the General Consul of Greece in Alexandria. The inclusion of the exhibition in the official programme of celebratory events was a major distinction for the Greek artist. Following Alexandria, the exhibition opened at the Amir Taz Palace in Cairo under the auspices of Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

Captivated by Alexandria’s unique atmosphere and greatly enamoured of Durrell's celebrated novels, Andreas Georgiadis creates a visual account of moments, impressions and reminiscences, combining the real with the imaginary, the past with the present, the literal with the metaphorical.

In Athens, the exhibition is being organised in partnership with the Egyptian Cultural Centre in Athens and the British Council.
